Tracheostomies complications can be catastrophic if not recognized and handled appropriately. We will discuss common tracheostomy emergencies that can be easily remedied at the bedside by the emergency physician.
Learning Objectives:
After this session, the learner will be able to describe common tracheostomy malfunctions including obstruction, decannulation and partial displacement.
After this session, the learner will be able to perform the initial interventions necessary to trouble shoot and treat tracheostomy malfunctions.
After this session, the learner will be able to differentiate a tracheostomy from a laryngectomy and describe which interventions are appropriate for each type of surgical airway.
After this session, the learner will be able to describe common tracheostomy malfunctions including obstruction, decannulation and partial displacement.
