Session Description: This session will cover the basics of obtaining ultrasound images of the shoulder to evaluate for the presence of a dislocation. This technique is easy to learn and apply to a wide variety of clinical scenarios from the sidelines of an event, the trauma center to the rural community ED with limited resources. Rapidly recognizing a dislocation allows more appropriate pain relief and much more rapid disposition if managed appropriately. Multiple examples will be discussed showing the how and the why of MSK ultrasound for shoulder dislocations with an emphasis on recognizing the diagnosis, managing the dislocation and confirming adequate reduction in a prompt manner.
Learning Objectives:
Recognize shoulder dislocation through the use of point of care ultrasound
manage shoulder dislocation and confirm reduction without need for x-ray imaging
implement basic musculoskeletal ultrasound into their routine practice
Recognize shoulder dislocation through the use of point of care ultrasound
