Session Description: Are you tired of doctor googling your way through those cancer patients checking into your ER? Are you not sure if alemtuzumab and atezolizumab are different, or if they're even both for cancer? Well, I'm here to tell you there's no way around the absolute necessity of google, but there are a few quick easy-to-remember principles that will make your doctor googling far more efficient and productive. Join me for a very informal talk that will include a brief refresher on standard oncologic emergencies and a review of critical concepts for modern cancer care such as "immunotherapy" (or perhaps better defined as "immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy"), CAR-T, and post-operative complications.
Learning Objectives:
Develop an approach to quickly finding the resources you need to care for your cancer patient in an informed manner.
Identify risk factors for complications such as ICI-related immunotherapy, chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy, and postoperative complications in their patients.
Engage your patients in brief but necessary discussions regarding goals of care, specifically to determine code status as efficiently as possible and provide palliative care every step of the way.
Develop an approach to quickly finding the resources they need to take care of their cancer patient in an informed manner.
