Session Description: While “A” comes before all the other letters, there may be profound anatomic or physiologic barriers to safely securing the airway in a trauma resuscitation. In this session, we will devise an approach to maintain a patent airway while recognizing that a poorly timed intubation attempt may potentiate hemodynamic collapse. This will include timing of the intubation attempt, medications, intubation techniques as well as other strategies.
Learning Objectives:
Recognize the unique physiology of the injured patient, especially in hemorrhagic shock and neurotrauma
Review intubation techniques, medications, and other required elements to safely secure the airway
Construct a resuscitative strategy for intubation of a severely injured patient
Recognize the unique physiology of the injured patient, especially in hemorrhagic shock and neurotrauma
