Session Description: Many order sets for pregnant women who present to the ED for vaginal bleeding contain a urinalysis. Generally, the reason cited for the inclusion of this test is that it is important to treat asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnant women, but it turns out, this is not so straightforward. This session will review the literature related to asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnancy and will challenge the learner to rethink their use of the urinalysis in pregnant women.
Learning Objectives:
Summarize the research evidence related to outcomes of pregnant women with asymptomatic bacteriuria.
